He survived a number of years as a POW in Japanese hands, only to be released and, then, when almost home, by a cruel twist of fate, was killed in a plane crash on top of Hindhead.\u00a0 Timekeeper, Peter Cooke and Hilly promoter George Wright joined the Redmon when the Kingston disbanded and brought the event with them.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\">Awarded for fastest time.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table id=\"Table2\" style=\"background-color: red; color: yellow;\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"1\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"3\" align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><strong>THE KINGSTON HILLY 73\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"background-color: black; color: white;\">\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><strong>The John Walton Team Trophy<\/strong><\/td>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\">Presented by Mrs Walton, in memory of husband John who had a great interest in the event and marshalled the left turn at Petworth for twenty years after moving to Hayling Island.<\/td>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\">Awarded for fastest time for a team of three<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"background-color: black; color: white;\">\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><strong>The George Wright Memorial Trophy<\/strong><\/td>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\">Mrs Pauline Wright donated the trophy, in memory of husband George, who promoted the event for over 30 years.<\/td>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\">Awarded to the fastest first time entry in the Hilly 73<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table id=\"Table2\" style=\"background-color: red; color: yellow;\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"1\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"3\"><strong>REDMON ROAD RACE TROPHY<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"background-color: black; color: white;\">\n<td><strong>The Redmon Trophy<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Purchased from club funds. The first event was promoted under B.L.R.C. rules pending amalgamation of that body with the N.C.U. to form the B.C.F.<\/td>\n<td>Awarded to the winner of the open road race known by that name<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"background-color: black; color: white;\">\n<td><strong>The Redmon Junior Road Race Trophy<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Presented by Past President, Alec Wingrave, it is a cup he won in 1936 and had reengraved. Sometimes contested on the open road, sometimes at Crystal Palace circuit.<\/td>\n<td>Awarded to the first junior rider when the event is third category and juniors.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table id=\"Table2\" style=\"background-color: red; color: yellow;\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"1\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"3\"><strong>GRAND PRIX des GENTLEMEN<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"background-color: black; color: white;\">\n<td><strong>The Marj &amp; Bill Griffiths Trophy<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Bill Griffiths was a former Club Secretary.<\/td>\n<td>Awarded to the best veteran on standard.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"3\"><strong>REDMON OPEN 25 MILE TIME TRIAL (incorporating the Kentish Wheelers Novices 25)<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"background-color: black; color: white;\">\n<td><strong>The Ron Bensley Memorial Trophy.<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Ron was killed in the Navy in WWII.\u00a0 He was a founder member of the club and General Secretary until the outbreak of war. The trophy was originally awarded to the winner of the Open 30, but as events at this distance lost their popularity it was decided to discontinue our event in 1980.\u00a0 In the same year we took over the old established Kentish Wheelers Novices 25 and decided to use this elegant trophy for the fastest team.<\/td>\n<td>Awarded to the fastest team of three.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"background-color: black; color: white;\">\n<td><strong>The Ditchman Memorial Trophy<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>The Kentish Wheelers handed over this trophy for the fastest rider.<br \/>\n[In the event of the Redmon relinquishing this promotion both trophies will be returned to the Kentish Wheelers.]<\/td>\n<td>Awarded to the fastest rider.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"background-color: black; color: white;\">\n<td><strong>The Old Members Trophy<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>The Kentish Wheelers also handed over this trophy for the fastest Novice.<br \/>\n[In the event of the Redmon relinquishing this promotion both trophies will be returned to the Kentish Wheelers.]<\/td>\n<td>Awarded to the fastest novice.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"background-color: black; color: white;\">\n<td><strong>The Ted Lees Memorial Trophy<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Ted recorded many Redmon events with his camera.<\/td>\n<td>Won by the veteran returning the greatest plus on V.T.T.A.
