We had planned the journey before we had even gone on holiday to a cottage on the English side of the Scottish border near Carlisle. We decided to drive about 30 miles from the cottage from where we would cycle back to the cottage along the Pennine Way. It was intended to be a hilly but possible ride home – we started the ride from a car park at around 11AM, but when by 6PM we were still not back at the cottage, both Dad and I, and Mum were beginning to get worried. This is what happened…

It was the 20th December in 2009. My Dad and I decided to go out for a cycle ride, which in hindsight was not such a good idea .Since the Wednesday before, there had been snow and ice across much of England, meaning the roads and paths we journeyed were very slippery and icy! It was a big mistake going for a ride.

2010 Champions PDF Print E-mail

The club championship was held on Thursday (24 June 2010).  It was a really lovely evening, the sun shone and the temperature was just right.  Don't think that anyone could complain. And that showed with some good times, and the handicap times were all very close.

Ed Clark was crowned club champion for the second year with a PB of 21m 30s (is he beatable?!).  He gets the trophy and gold medal.  Mick Deen was second with 22m 8s for the silver medal and Richard Vaudin in third with 23m 38s for the bronze medal.  Simon Tonge and Tony Tuohy just missed out in fourth and fifth places with 23m 53s and 23m 56s respectively.

Tommy Woodland was our handicap champ with a very fine ride in 30m 40s and a handicap time of 19m 10s.  David Eccles was second handicap with 20m 3s and Barry Walker a very close  third with 20m 10s.
