Open Events Trophies

This is a guide to the open event trophies and some of their history

The Jock Compton Memorial Trophy
Jock was club captain of the now defunct Kingston R.C before the 1939-45 War.  He was renowned for picking out all the biggest hills he could find on club runs. He survived a number of years as a POW in Japanese hands, only to be released and, then, when almost home, by a cruel twist of fate, was killed in a plane crash on top of Hindhead.  Timekeeper, Peter Cooke and Hilly promoter George Wright joined the Redmon when the Kingston disbanded and brought the event with them.
Awarded for fastest time.
THE KINGSTON HILLY 73
The John Walton Team Trophy Presented by Mrs Walton, in memory of husband John who had a great interest in the event and marshalled the left turn at Petworth for twenty years after moving to Hayling Island. Awarded for fastest time for a team of three
The George Wright Memorial Trophy Mrs Pauline Wright donated the trophy, in memory of husband George, who promoted the event for over 30 years. Awarded to the fastest first time entry in the Hilly 73
REDMON ROAD RACE TROPHY

The trophy was originally awarded to the winner of the Open 30, but as events at this distance lost their popularity it was decided to discontinue our event in 1980.  In the same year we took over the old established Kentish Wheelers Novices 25 and decided to use this elegant trophy for the fastest team. Awarded to the fastest team of three.
